Andrew Borracchini Wins Best Bagger Competition in Walla Walla, Washington

2011 Best Bagger Competion Winner in WashingtonIn a follow up to our Best Bagger Competition post dated October 14th, 2011, a winner was selected and is now set to go to Las Vegas in February of 2012.  Andrew Borracchini, a bagger from Metropolitan Market in Seattle, won the compition against 7 other contestants.  The Washington Food Industry Association hosted the event on October 26th at the Red Lion Hotel.  Contestants were judged on speed, technique and customer service criteria.

Andrew received a check in the amount of $1500.00 and has a chance to go on to the “National Bag Off”, held in Las Vegas.  That event will be sponsored by the National Grocers Association.

All of the bags used in the competion were paper or eco bags and the stacking techniques of the bags was critical.  For instance, if you put bread underneath a heavier item, and the bread was smashed, points were reduced.  If an item fell out of a reusable shopping bag, points were also reduced.

First Runner Up went to Haley Knudson, and notable Second Place went to Erik Behrens.
