Lip balmKeeping in mind the issue of plastic waste disposal, Burt’s Bee, a company that creates skincare and natural beauty products has decided to make its packaging from eco friendly promotional items. At present, this company utilizes recycled plastic materials to make their packaging. But, they are trying to look for alternatives that will narrow down their waste to a zero percent.

Burt’s Bees’ famous products

Burt’s Bees is known for its lip care products, specifically lip balm. These lip balms are known for their protective quality, and they help regenerate dead skin cells on the lips as well. At present, this famous lip balm from the company is packaged in plastic tubes. Considering the number of lip balms the company sells everyday, it is concerned about the environmental footprint that its firm is causing.

Gimme 5 program – encouraging eco friendly promotional items

Recently, Burt’s Bees signed a contract that stated that the company is going to make efforts to try and reduce its packaging waste. As a matter of fact, the company agreed to completely remove the #5 lip balm tubes, which are made out of plastic, from the landfills. This program is known as the Gimme 5 Program, and it is formulated to collect plastic waste of #5 products. So from now on, Burt’s Bees lip balms will also be included in the Gimme 5 collection list.

The Director of Sustainable Business at the company, Paula Alexander stated that their company is focused at introducing sustainable methods in its production. The Burt’s Bees lip balm was first packaged in a clay pot, then packaged in tin, and lastly in recycled plastic tube bottles. At present, the company wants to turn completely green and use only eco-friendly materials in packaging their products. They are trying to conduct research on the possible alternative materials that they can use, and they aim at making their packing completely eco-friendly in the coming two or three years.

The Gimme 5 program

The Gimme 5 program, signed by the company, was introduced to collect plastic waste from companies that manufacture razor handles, wholesale food products, deodorants, toothbrushes, or any other type of plastic containers used by companies to package their products. This program has a partnership with Recyclebank. Due to this collaboration, the people or organizations that choose to recycle their products with the Gimme 5 program earn discounts and rewards in various restaurants and grocery stores as well.
