Eco-friendly Trucks Launched by Waste Management

Eco-friendly TrucksA new fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks are being launched by Waste Management. This is the first time such trucks are being launched in Northwest Florida, and by 2013 end, there will be close to 30 trucks plying in Okaloosa County. CNG trucks will reduce greenhouse emissions for each vehicle by roughly 8000 gallons per year.

Waste Management – a company with an eco-friendly policy

Waste Management is the biggest supplier of environmental and waste management services in North America. It serves over 21 million customers and helps them manage wastes in an eco-friendly manner, by converting waste into useful products. Instead of using the traditional landfill approach to dumping waste in a safe site, the company provides green services by using waste through recycling, generating energy, and converting it into useful products.

The company operates facilities that convert waste and landfill gas into energy. This green energy produced is more than the amount produced by the solar industry in the US. The company has allotted 26 thousand acres of land for the development of wildlife habitat. It aims to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions from its fleet by using trucks running on compressed natural gas.

Waste Management’s latest eco friendly promotional items

Waste Management has a fleet of 31,000 heavy duty collection vehicles to collect waste. It plans to reduce emissions and increase fuel efficiency by converting 18,000 vehicles in this fleet from diesel to compressed natural gas trucks. Every conversion of a collection truck from diesel to natural gas will reduce diesel consumption by around 8000 gallons, which adds up to a reduction of 22 metric tons of CO2 in one year.

Waste Management also plans to use new materials to reduce the weight of trucks fleet and opt for motor oil with enhanced longevity. Using eco friendly promotional items like natural gas offers benefits to the functioning of the truck as well. Natural gas helps to reduce idling noise in trucks as they go on waste collection drives around neighborhoods. The odor that is associated with diesel fuel is eliminated with trucks running on CNG. It is also lighter as compared to diesel, and releases nitrogen oxide emissions by upto 50 % less than the most efficient diesel trucks.

There are various environmental benefits of running trucks using natural gas. Emissions of greenhouse gases are reduced by 21 percent. If the natural gas is obtained from energy generated from landfill waste, greenhouse emissions can reduce by over 80 %.

Advantages of using alternative fuel in vehicles

You enjoy a number of advantages by using alternative fuels in vehicles. You can enjoy greater fuel efficiency, with lesser cost of fuel per gallon. Alternative fuels are cleaner and release less carbon fumes, reducing your carbon footprint. Alternative fuels come from sustainable sources, so this energy is renewable and does not lead to depletion of resources.
