Garrett County Promotes Non-Woven Grocery Bags

Tote BagsThe county officials in Garrett County are happy about the fact that their recycling rates have increased by 5%, in comparison to 2010. According to the Department of Solid Waste & Recycling in the county, the residents have become more aware of the benefits of recycling, and they have made substantial efforts to reduce their household waste in the past two years.

Reviewing the recycling rates

The Department of Environment in the region decided to review the recycling rates within the county to set their goals for the present year. In the year 2011, the county’s recycling rate was approximately 50.93%, while the waste diversion rate in the county was close to 51.93%. With respect to the other counties in the United States, Garrett County was placed fifth in terms of recycling rates in 2011. In the year 2010, the county had a recycling rate of approximately 45.17%, and the county officials decided that they needed to increase their recycle rates, and thus they motivated the residents to recycle more.

According to the county officials, increased recycling rates are a sign of economic growth as well. This is because residents will be able to purchase products only when they have enough variable income in their hand. So the fact that the residents have more waste to recycle implies that they have purchased more products during the year, which indicates that their variable income was higher during the year as well.

The need to promote non-woven grocery bags

The county officials were asked to divert approximately 20% of their waste to their recycling programs in the year 2012. These orders were given by the Maryland General Assembly, so that the entire state could achieve their recycling targets. In the past few years, the county was only required to recycle 15% of their waste, but now the officials want more waste to be recycled.

The fact that the county has managed to increase their recycling rates by 5% from 2010 to the present indicates that the residents have been able to recycle their waste in a better way. The county officials feel that the fact that the residents have incorporated reusable bags and non-woven grocery bags in their lifestyles has helped them recycle more. The officials are hoping that by the end of 2013, the recycling rates within the county will increase by substantial figures again. According to the Recycling Coordinator of the county, Kimberly Madigan, the county is going to motivate the residents to recycle more, so they should definitely increase their recycling rates in 2013.
