The National Mall in Washington, D.C. to Host Earth Day 2012 Event

Earth Day is April 22, 2012, and the Earth Day Network is hosting a day long event at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  The purpose of the event is to “Mobilize The Earth and demand a sustainable future.”   The event is open to the public and is free.   Sting, John Legend, James Cameron, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and many other public figures will be attending to show their support of the many environmentally friendly practices they are in support of.

The National Mall is located between 8th and 14th Streets and the events will be starting at 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m.  The best way to get around the city is to use public transportation and the closest Metro Stations are Smithsonian, Archives and L’ Enfant Plaza.

This event is expected to bring in tens of thousands of people from across the nation to “Mobilize the Earth” into more green practices such as using reusable shopping bags, banning single use plastic grocery bags, ways to save energy in your home, recycling measures and many other green practices.  Exhibitions and demonstrations will be set up throughout the mall.  Lots of food and freebies will be handed out, so make sure you bring your recyclable shopping bag with you.
