An Eco-friendly Bank in Farmingdale

bankWith the increasing awareness on the benefits of eco-friendly infrastructure, many businesses and residential spaces have made efforts to build eco-friendly buildings. The Kennebec Savings Bank has also joined this new trend, as the bank’s latest branch building in the Farmingdale region is completely eco-friendly in nature. This building is made using eco friendly promotional items, and is known for its innovative heating and cooling system.

A historic mansion – now a bank

The land where the new Kennebec Savings Bank’s branch has been opened belonged to a private owner. This land had a historical mansion on it, which was broken down to construct the new bank’s building. However, some of the elements of the bank reflect the authentic construction style of the mansion.

According to the Vice President and CEO of the bank, Andrew Silsby, all organizations should make efforts to try and include eco-friendly elements in their buildings. He states that while demolishing the old house, the architects tried to save all the elements that could be used in the new bank building as well. As a matter of fact, this is not the first time that the Bank has converted a historical or old residential space into a commercial one. According to Andrew, the bank also followed the same procedure for their branch office in Augusta. For their branch in Augusta, the authorities converted a historical home by infusing elements of modern architecture in it.

Andrew Silsby stated that during the demolition process and even while disposing the ruins of the old house, the appointed architects made it a point to conduct the proceeding in a zero impact way. He stated that Kennebec Bank as an organization is extremely conscious of the impact that its actions have on the environment. So whenever the bank undertakes an activity, it tries to conduct it in an eco-friendly manner. This is the reason why the bank has retained some of the features of the old house, such as the gallery architecture and non-functioning chimneys, in their new branch office as well.

The branch office located in Maine Avenue has many interesting eco-friendly elements in it. The most fascinating element in this building is the geothermal system. This system is very unique because it uses 450-feet deep wells as the heating and cooling agents of the building. At present, the architects of the building are trying to get a LEED certification. They are hoping that they will receive at least a silver level LEED certification for this building.
