An Eco-friendly Event Funded by the Aiken City Council

The organizers of this event are planning on hosting this event every year, as they feel that such events remind the residents about the importance of eco-friendly activities.

An interesting recycling event

This eco-friendly event, the Spring Conservation and Recycling Day, was funded by the Aiken Soil and Water Conservation Department, the Aiken County, Savannah River Nucler Solutions, and the city council. The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control gave the city council officials a grant in order to organize this event.

During the event, the residents in Aiken city will be able to dispose their gasoline-powered mowers, and get vouchers to buy new eco-friendly mowers for themselves. The residents will be able to cash in these vouchers at all the stores in the city, and they can even test their eco-friendly mowers before purchasing them.

According to the Director of the Public Services in the city, Tim Coakley, such events should be organized regularly, so that the residents can adapt to the use of eco-friendly products easily. He feels that if non-governmental organizations take up the responsibility to organize such events, the city will be able to achieve its green goals easily.

The need to replace regular mowers with eco friendly promotional items

This event is primarily focused at encouraging the usage of eco friendly promotional items, and replacing regular mowers with battery-powered or electric mowers. The EPA or Environmental Protection Agency in the US stated that a regular mower emits a lot of pollution; as a matter of fact, a mower’s one hour emission rates can be compared to that of 11 cars. So if these mowers are replaced with eco-friendly options, the air quality in the city will improve and the pollution rates will go down.

The EPA stated that a change in 1000 gasoline-powered mowers could lead to an approximate 10 tons of reduction in the air pollution. This is the primary reason as to why the Aiken city council decided to host this event.

Advantages of using eco-friendly mowers

According to Richard Pearce, the City Manager, eco-friendly mowers have a lot of advantages. He himself has a rechargeable battery mower, and he feels that it works better than a regular gasoline-powered mower, and is very convenient to use as well. He feels that residents can adapt to these mowers easily, and through this event, a lot of residents will start investing in these mowers.
