Recycling Rates and Wholesale Reusable Bags Increase at University of Central Florida

The students at the University of Central Florida are making efforts to increase their recycling rates. The Recycling and Housekeeping services at the university have labeled all the dustbins in order to guide the students. The dustbins at the university have a label saying ‘landfill’ on them, and the students are expected to throw all their waste materials in these bins. These bins are located in all the high traffic areas of the campus, and so the recycling services at the university have been able to increase their recycling rate through these bins.

The recycling efforts at the university

At present, the university’s recycling rate is approximately 25 percent. According to the laws in Florida, all the buildings that are owned by the government need to have a minimum recycling recycling rate of 30 percent. So the university needs to make efforts to increase its recycling rate by at least 5 percent. This is one of the primary reasons as to why the university officials have started the dustbin labeling campaign within the campus.

According to the students at the university, the dustbin labeling campaign has guided them to a large extent. Brittaney Hubble, one of the students at the university stated that she made an effort to dispose all her waste into the recycling dustbins, as they were placed all around the campus. She stated that before the campaign, she rarely made an effort to dispose her waste in the right manner, but the labels constantly reminded her to recycle all her waste.

According to the Director of the Interdisciplinary Studies at the University, Michael Hampton, the labeling system has helped in spreading awareness among the students, and it has also increased the recycling rates on the campus. Furthermore, he stated that with the help of the campaign, the university will be able to perform better at the RecycleMania, a national-level recycling competition.

The university promotes wholesale reusable bags and recycling

The university authorities are making efforts to promote recycling among their students due to various researches conducted on the waste disposal problems in the US. The Zero Waste America published a research which stated that the 3,000 landfills located within the US are suffering from contamination and leaks. Keeping in mind the condition of the landfills within the country, the university authorities are trying to teach the students the value of recycling through their campaigns and through the promotion of wholesale reusable bags.
