Grocery Chain Kroger Highlights All its Achievements in the Sustainability Report

The associates of Kroger have embraced sustainability in all of their daily business practices right from the day they joined the company, claimed CEO and chairman of Kroger, David Dillon. Looking at the results in the sustainability report, the CEO was satisfied with Kroger’s efforts.

Single-family houses powered by Kroger’s efforts

According to David Dillon, most of the company’s stores in 2011 have ended up saving enough and more energy to power almost every Columbus Single-family home. The report stated that the company was able to do so for an entire year to the houses in the small region of Ohio. David also said that the company is proud to have donated over hundred million meals to most of the local food banks.

Since Kroger has a partnership with Feeding America, it became easier for the company to donate food to the local food banks. The effort showcased by the company placed Kroger as one among the top-tier donors. David, the CEO of Kroger said that the company will surely continue the efforts and commitment that they have had so far in order to help make the entire world a better place to live in, in several ways.

Included wholesale reusable bags as part of the sustainability efforts

Quite a few highlights are present in the social sustainability and environmental progress of the company in the year 2011. Kroger is proud of its efforts, which save over 2.34 billion kilowatt electricity hours in the country. The amount of electricity saved equals over 1.47 million metric tons of greenhouse gases emitted. All these efforts equals to taking almost 292,000 automobiles off the roads in the country for almost a year.

Kroger also improved bagging techniques as part of its sustainability efforts. The company ensured that the usage of wholesale reusable bags were increased, which helped in reducing the usage of over 1 billion plastic bags starting from 2008. In the year 2011, Kroger went a step forward and provided and sold customers with wholesale reusable bags. Almost 4.3 million bags were sold, which meant that the company provided at least 14,200 bags a day. Apart from all these efforts, the company has also ensured that it looks into the resource recovery system.
