FoLAR (Friends of the Los Angeles River) is a non-profit organization that aims to restore and protect the natural worth of the Los Angeles River. President of FoLAR, Lewis MacAdams, said that the meeting was convened to celebrate the dedication of corporate enterprises such as Miss Me® towards the environment. He thanked the company for its generosity and urged other enterprises to follow suit.
The ARBOR study
The Los Angeles River Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study also known as the ARBOR study aims to explore the Glendale Narrows, the stretch of Los Angeles River running for 11 miles, from downtown Los Angeles to the northern tip of Griffith Park.
Sites having ecological value are to be identified for restoring aquatic habitats. The project involves removing obstructing cement to improve the connectivity of aquatic life. Apart from restoring the river, the project will create new job opportunities for several people in Los Angeles.
The Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa said the donation by Miss Me® had brought them closer to their dream of making the Los Angeles River the backbone of the city. The river would serve as a central zone that connects the city’s nature trails, parks and pedestrian walkways.
Eco friendly promotional items to protect the Los Angeles River
FoLAR has been involved in several environmental initiatives and campaigns. Recognizing the hazards of plastic to aquatic life in the river, FoLAR has brought about wholesale reusable bags called the FoLAR tote bags. Plastic usage is discouraged by the NGO and environmental responsibility is promoted.
The clothing company Miss Me® has an exclusive clothing range for the new age woman. The company spokesperson and legal counsel, Lilly Kim, stated that the company had always been interested in conserving the beauty of the Los Angeles River and was pleased to contribute towards the river restoration efforts.
