Every year people throw away multiple toothbrushes in order to maintain their oral hygiene, and these plastic toothbrushes fill up substantial space in the waste disposal landfills. To help combat this problem, two US based companies have launched the concept of an eco friendly toothbrush or ReBrush. This idea was proposed by a Boston-based firm, founded by Ollie Haas and Jake Felser, LittleBonsai. Since its inception in 2011, this company has been focusing on developing eco friendly promotional items to reduce waste, especially in domestic households.
ReBrush – an organic way to clean your teeth
The manufacturers state that ReBrush has an anodized aluminum body and the option of replaceable heads. The aluminum body is designed to last for a longer period of time, and the head can be replaced every 3 months. Even though the head of the toothbrush is not made out of recyclable materials, the manufacturers feel that this product will help reduce the waste level caused by using plastic toothbrushes drastically. As a matter of fact, in their opinion, this product will reduce the waste caused by disposing toothbrushes by an impressive 80 percent.
The research behind the launch of eco friendly promotional items
Before launching the product, the company did research on their potential customers. During this research, a team of experts and Haas visited common people’s houses. They spoke to the people about their toothbrush usage in detail and formulated their data. They also spoke to them about their preferred toothbrush designs. Based on this research, Haas and his team designed ReBrush.
The company plans on selling this toothbrush in yearly packages, where in the consumers will receive four disposable heads along with the body. Once the yearly package is over, the consumers can buy the disposable heads on the company’s website. The body is expected to last for a period of four years. The company plans on pricing the product at $25 and it will be available online on the company’s website.
The collaboration between LittleBonsai and a team of dental experts
The body of the toothbrush is designed by LittleBonsai, while the disposable heads will be manufactured by a team of dental experts that the company has collaborated with. These toothbrushes will be manufactured in the US and will be available online on the company’s website only. However, at present the company is trying to receive a patent for the product and will start manufacturing only sometime next year. So, the product is supposed to appear in the market only by February 2013.
