In the month of April, if the stores don’t stop providing plastic bags to their customers, they will be fined a sum of $150. According to the county municipality, this step will help in reducing the plastic pollution within the village. The municipal authorities have decided to initiate this ban on plastic bags because they feel that this step will help curb the level of pollution within the village. According to Michaela Zeuss, the co-chair of the Committee for the Environment in the village, the residents need to make efforts so that they can switch over to using reusable bags. She also stated that the committee is hoping the residents to understand the significance of this ban, and not protest against it.

In order to educate the people about the ban, some of the shopkeepers within the village have already started using reusable bags in their stores. For instance, a gourmet grocery store in the village, Lord’s Table has started publicizing green and red reusable bags at its entrance. The residents can buy these reusable bags from the store for $1.99. In addition to this, the store is giving all the customers, who bring a reusable bag of their own, a discount worth five cents on their purchases.
Residents have a mixed opinion on the ban
Some of the residents are promoting reusable bags by using their own handcrafted bags while shopping. According to a local resident, John Chang, his family is excited about using reusable bags. He also stated that they were looking forward to making changes in their lifestyle as well as preserving the environment. Another resident, Salgar, stated that reusable bags are a better option than plastic or paper bags. This is because paper bags pile up over a period of time, and they eventually need to be recycled. So using a reusable bag would be more convenient.

However, the committee is trying to explain to these residents that plastic bags clog the water pipes in the village region, and are harming the landfills as well.
