Environmental Protection Agency Provides 6.5 Million for Restoration Projects

Environmental FriendlyThe Environmental Protection Agency of the United States of America is giving about $6.5 million in grants to the local and state agencies, and other non-profit organizations. This is being done in order to restore the wetlands and water quality throughput the watershed of the San Francisco Bay. Grants offered range from $75,000 to about $1.5 million, and will support over ten projects.

The projects will deal with preventing water pollution, restoring tidal marshes and streams, and also managing flood waters in an earth friendly manner. It is one of the many green measures being taken by the Environmental Protection Agency to help protect the planet and reduce the levels of pollution. Apart from this measure, the agency is encouraging recycling of waste and usage of eco-friendly promotional items as well.

Watershed restoration projects are funded under the Water Quality Improvement Fund of the San Francisco Bay, which has invested over 28 million dollars in 48 projects all over this region, ever since 2008.

Ever since the Fund was invented, the investments of the Environmental Protection Agency have been matched with hundred million dollars from over 69 partner organizations and agencies. The watershed restoration project is currently in progress and the EPA has requested all the participating agencies to avoid using chemicals that will further harm the environment, while cleaning the region.
