A Group of Martinez Residents Promote Custom Recycled Bags Imprinted

The women stated their belief that reusable bags will benefit the waste management authorities and the residents as well. So they decided to conduct a small campaign on the occasion of Earth Day.

The group of women who advocated the usage of reusable bags stated that they want the residents in Martinez to develop the habit of bringing their own reusable bags to the grocery stores. One of the women from the group feels that people are ignorant of the impact that plastic bags have on the environment, so they never make an effort to carry reusable bags. But, if educated, people would take initiatives so as to include reusable bags in their day-to-day routine.

The group clarified that they organized this event to help the residents and to increase the level of awareness among them. They hoped that the event had created some amount of impact on the people.

RC Ferris, one of the organizers of this event, said that plastic bags harm the environment and they have derogatory impacts on the health of the user and various animals as well. These bags decompose into small particles that degrade the quality of soil that they are placed in. These bags release toxins into the soil, making it unfit for usage.

There are a few people who feel that plastic bags are essential for certain industries such as medical and the hotel industry. Experts claim that usage of reusable bags for medicines and various food items can lead to contamination. So they request the residents to use reusable bags for activities that have the potential to harm the health of the user.

The bill on plastic bags in Martinez

At present, the state legislature is considering a bill on whether or not they should ban plastic bags throughout the state of California. If this bill is passed, the retail shops in Martinez will have to use paper bags instead of plastic bags. According to Marie Knudson, the President of the Chamber of Commerce in the city, this ban will help in resolving the waste and climate problems in the region, so she is hoping that the state legislature will pass this bill as soon as possible.
