Recycle Day and Distributor Reusable Bags at Connellsville

eco friendlyTo promote recycling among the residents, the Electronics Department of the Connellsville Area Career and Technical Center is planning to organize an electronics recycling event. The residents from the city will be allowed to dispose their old electronic appliances at the event. The students from the Department conducted a similar recycling event last year, and the response that they received inspired them to conduct this event in 2013 as well.

An electronics recycling event

According to one of the senior students from the Department, Mason Williams, the organizers collected close to 24 boxes of used electronics during the last recycling event. The collection at the last event inspired the students to conduct the recycling event this year, and they are hoping that more residents will participate in this year’s recycling event.

The students from the Department will be collecting all types of electronic appliances at the event, but they won’t be able to accommodate large appliances such as stoves, dryers, dishwashers, or refrigerators. All the electronic appliances that will be collected at the event will be transferred to the Department where the students will try and fix them on their own. According to one of the organizers of the event, fixing these appliances is a good learning experience for the students, and this is one of the primary reasons as to why the Department organized it.

If the students are successful in fixing these items, they sell them to the residents for a nominal amount. The money that is collected for the sale of these items is used to conduct class trips for the students, and it is also used to purchase new equipment for the Department. In some cases, the students fix some of the electronic appliances for themselves as well.

Distributor reusable bags and other eco-friendly items at the event

The organizers of the event are also going to promote eco-friendly items and distributor reusable bags at the event. According to them, the residents need to be encouraged to adapt eco-friendly habits in their day-to-day lifestyle, and such events are an ideal opportunity to encourage such behavior among them. Apart from having electronics recycled, the residents need to make an effort to incorporate eco-friendly products such as reusable bags in their day-to-day routine as well. The students from the Department are going to spread awareness on this matter during the event.
