SWACO Grants to Columbus Libraries and Other Organizations

Eco productsRecently, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) had awarded grants for environmental initiatives taken by organizations, local governments, nonprofit agencies and schools. Columbus Metropolitan Library is one such organization that has received the grant.

Recycling measures taken by Columbus Metropolitan Library

Columbus Metropolitan Library has now begun to offer recycling services to its customers. The goal of the library is to increase the amount of recyclables by at least 25 percent by the year 2013.

The Chief Customer Experience Officer of the library, Alison Circle, said that they were happy to be the recipient of the grant offered by SWACO. Plastic and paper were recycled by the staff for many years and they were only eager to expand their efforts by offering opportunity to their customers to easily recycle their goods.

The library is committed to their objective of developing environmental sustainability through all their operations. Kim Snell, the spokesman of the library, said that the recycling program began two years ago at the library.

Snell said that patrons often brought paper, plastic bottles, and recyclable containers to the library. It is the environmental benefit that prompts the library staff to persist in their mission and motivate their customers to bring in more recyclables.

SWACO grants for recycling and producing eco friendly promotional items

SWACO has also sanctioned grants to other organizations such as Audubon Center for placing trash containers for recyclables. The recycling center, situated at the Scioto Audubon Metro Park, is thrown open to the public.

The Worthington Service Department was also awarded about 15 thousand dollars. The money was used to replace trash bins with the latest dual-purpose enclosures. The enclosures consisted of two receptacles: one for trash and the other for recyclables.

The money awarded to Grove City Parks and Recreation was used for installing recycling plants all across Big Splash Family Aquatic Center. Every recycling unit had four bins internally for convenient and accurate waste sorting.

St. Joseph Montessori School was also given a cash prize to procure new recycling containers. The students and staff of the school have vested a lot of effort in recycling. Most of these recyclables are effectively processed into eco friendly promotional items that are sold at a reasonably good price.

When the Westerville Green Team was awarded cash, compost bins and kitchen collectors were procured. The money was also used to set up environmental campaigns to educate people about backyard composting and benefits of recycling.
